Arizona officials have recently released a video of an Arizona Police officer shooting an unarmed man in the hallway of an AZ hotel. 27 Year old Philip Brailsford was acquitted of a murder charge that carried a sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
Officer Brailsford was charged with killing the unarmed Daniel Shaver(26), but after 2 days before a jury, he was found not guilty of any charges. Although, he was fired from his job with law enforcement for violating police protocol.
Local Police were notified by an anonymous caller who said that Mr.Shavers had been pointing a gun out of his window. This gun was actually a pellet gun that Shaver had used for his job with pest control. Apparently, he had been drinking a little bit earlier that day and had invited some guests over to his hotel room and was just showing the gun off jokingly in front of his guests.
The video shows Mr.Shavers pleading for his life saying “don’t shoot me” just moments before he was rapidly shot 5 times by Mr.Brailsford’s AR-15 Rifle.
Brailsford, who according to TMZ was a failed actor before becoming a cop, claimed that it looked like he was reaching for a gun. Although it was later found out that Shaver was completely unarmed, and he was most likely reaching to pull up his pants.
A Family man
Not only was Dan Shaver very young, but he was also a family man and had a wife and 2 children that he loved very much.
“I just don’t understand how anybody could watch that video and then say not guilty, that this is justified, that Daniel deserved this and that Philip Brailsford doesn’t deserve to be held accountable for his actions,” said Laney Sweet his wife.
The video has many feeling that police officers are treated as being above the law. Was this really just a case of self-defense, or was it a total abuse of power, and an execution of an innocent unarmed man?
